Hi, I am Jolene Wright. I am a hypnotherapist with a private practice, Vancouver Hypnosis and Healing Arts. I help to support people to make important life changes. With hypnosis I am able to help people to quite smoking, lose weight, deal with loss, ptsd, anxiety and so many other things. I am more than just a hypnotherapist, a mother, a partner, or wife though, I am a woman with a story.
My issues around weight go way back! I can remember dieting when I was in junior high. My weight would yo-yo up and down from that point on. My highest weight was just shy of 200 lbs for my average height of 5‘7”.
My own journey to healthy weight loss started about six years ago. I was ending rocky long term relationship with a partner who was in the middle of their own battle with addiction.
Some where along the line I came up against the realization that really the use of substances like diet pills, caffiene, energy drinks and extreme dieting was no different than someone using other substances like alcohol or drugs to manage their life.
I had used plenty of diet aids through the years and been on so many different diets! I was really wanting to do something different. I wanted to take a more healthy approach to weight loss. I made a decision to prove to my self that I could release the weight in a healthy way and not use diet pills, extreme diets, or fad diets.
So I set out about my journey, and I did in fact lose the weight. It took maybe a year or so. I felt great. I did it with out using any substances. I ate moderately, no extreme diet, and I moved my body moderately. It all started with awareness and then decision.

Healthy Weight Loss Tips
- Always begin your healthy weight loss journey with a trip to your doctor before beginning a new exercise or nutrition program.
(Be sure to confirm with your doctor that none of your medications are causing weight gain or keeping you from losing weight.)
- Shop from the out skirts of the grocery store, where all the fresh whole foods are. The isles at the center of the store are majority processed foods. Stick with fresh and unprocessed when possible, the fewer the ingredients the healthier the food.
- Start to move. Start small 10-15 minutes of movement a day. Gradually increase.
- Consider getting a pedometer. See what your average steps are for a few days and then add a few hundred a day until you are at 10,000 a day. Research shows that 10,000 steps a day can dramatically improve your over all health.
- Consider keeping a food journal in the beginning of your journey or any time you feel you have plateud . This is not something that will always be necessary. This is a good tool though to get clear about what you are eating vs. what your body needs if you are to release weight.
- Make realistic goals for your self, it is best to lose only 1-2 pounds a week for long term weight loss. Don’t get pulled in by all the hyped up promises about rapid weight loss it has it’s down side.
